I am a photographer primarily of birds in their natural habitats. My goal is to freeze a fleeting moment in time and convey the excitement of this instant to others. Moving to Asheville after 35 years as a TV news journalist, I found the beauty of photographing birds and deer year-round, portraying the seasons and the essence of my elusive subjects. My challenge has been to capture and convey in still photographs ephemeral actions of species like tiny hummingbirds that are constantly in motion.

As a veteran news photojournalist at the ABC station in Dallas, Texas, I covered exciting human stories such as the Oklahoma City bombing, the Waco standoff, the Gulf War, and children’s cleft palate surgeries in Mexico. After moving to Asheville with my wife Susie, I went from being a volunteer with the North Carolina Bluebird Society to becoming its Buncombe County Coordinator. Many of my photos have been published in the “Birds & Blooms” magazine on the Audubon North Carolina website and used for multi-media educational presentations. Other volunteer pastimes revolve around our two beloved Golden Retrievers: beyond pet portraits using pastels, we also travel together to make hospital visits, raising the spirits of chemotherapy patients.
